i live here

Friday, June 4th, 2010

I want to raise awareness of a project called “I Live Here”, which was brought together by actress Mia Kirshner and teacher Erica Solomon.

You can find information here.

The aims of this project – as best as I can explain it and please bear with me – is to help identify poverty and isolation in developing countries. There are so many starving orphaned children in prison because they have been caught stealing food or thousands of women who have gone missing, and no-one has bothered to notice this and do something about it. People in these countries are dying from disease, starvation, ulcers, malaria, murder, all things that can be prevented with just a little help. The governments of these poor countries can’t help because they have such little money.

You can read more in detail about this on the website. I’m not that great about summarising things or explaining them.

I really feel that people have forgotten about those suffering in the world. Yes, you can donate a few pounds to a charity every once in a while… but do you really think that is doing a fucking thing? I really want to get more people involved in fundraising, either raising money for supplies or actually coming with me to some of these countries to try and do something.

Countries such as the UK, US and Canada have so much money going to waste. (Okay, something about us being in debt?) I know that it’s going to be really hard to ever get fully rid of poverty, but people are not even trying. How about the rich people who have millions? £1 million would last them a LIFETIME. Why are they insisting on getting more money out of people?

This is totally unrelated… but I watched The Road yesterday, and basically it takes place after the apocalypse and there’s hardly anyone left on the planet. A few (including the main characters) are trying to keep surviving by eating whatever crumbs they find and everyone else has resulted to cannabillism. Okay, we get it: you want to survive. But would you actually want to live in a world with no other people? We need to help each other!

I’m not sure what I’m going to do… but I want to get more involved. So far I’m planning to take TEFL (teaching English as foreign language) course online while I’m at school, since so many places are requesting this in developing countries. I hope they’re not trying to take away other languages, but I can believe they’ll want to do this so we can communicate with others in these countries TO help them.

But really, I think our government or some big investor needs to help, in order to do something. And I just recently heard about these Israelis who shot the people that were bringing food to a neighbouring country, because they want to keep this country poor so the Israelis can have control over them (sorry the name has slipped my mind).

I don’t know why I’m suddenly so interested in volunteer work. I really don’t know what brought it up haha. I think I’ll set up a website of sort to advertise my future fundraising events and to try and get more teenagers involved in this.

Has disaster struck?

Saturday, May 1st, 2010

So… slightly disaster with my art project and my teacher isn’t amused about me asking to drag it out to Monday. You’re not allowed. It had to be finished by yesterday. See the thing is… I didn’t order enough brick slips, so I ordered more, but they didn’t arrive on time. Would have helped if my mum had sent the money order off quicker. I would have done it myself, but I had school all week, so I couldn’t go to the post office. Whatever, it’s my own fault. I’m just going to ramble in my sketchbook about how I didn’t manage to do it in the ten hours, but it adds to the wrecked/old/vintage look lol. Sorted. I guess.

This weekend rocks. I went to the spa today, which wasn’t as fancy as I expected, but still absolutely awesome. And tomorrow I’m going to (big city which I won’t name incase of stalkers or perves lol) to go shopping and I’m visiting the American Apparel store and also the Alexander Wang store! I love his stuff and I’ve heard they’re really comfy too… just a tad expensive. Not overly, but more than I would usually spend. I’m not sure if I blogged about him here, but I did over at ifuckfashion if you want to read about him. Not a hugely informative post, just a mention.

I wish I had a picture of my art project to upload here, but unfortunately they’re all on my school account. Maybe next week.

Text Project

Sunday, January 31st, 2010

I’ve been working like crazy to hurry along my latest art project for school. I won’t give away my idea yet, but here is my testing of colours.

Please don’t focus on the crappy eyes… they don’t look realistic at all. I was practicing using blue tones as the entire painting will be done with those. It is very simple and quickly done, but it gave me a better idea of what I am planning to do. The artwork will be based on Misguided Ghosts by Paramore, which is the text of the project. I don’t like Paramore at all, but I like the lyrics of this song as I feel it relates to how I’ve been feeling about things in my personal life. I’m going to try and not get all deep now xD

And my photography project is almost done. I’m so slow. The pictures are finished, but the display won’t be ready for another few weeks. My art teacher just put up the prints for the exhibition last week, but only by themselves.

Hi Patrick!

Tuesday, January 26th, 2010

I didn’t actually realise anyone from school read this. Not that it bothers me. Hell, it’s not like I’m writing on here like it’s a fucking diary. Anyway… nothing to rant about really. I’m bloody exhausted -_- I managed to get quite a bit done in Art today, so that’s good. I still need to fill my sketchbook up with painting technique tests that I’ve left blanks for O.O I don’t know WHY I ever did that, because now I HAVE to fill them in! But I have my project idea, which we have to start next Monday. We only have four weeks left, before the control test which I’m looking forward to but also kinda dreading. Hopefully it’s something GOOD. The only hard thing is that when it comes to the actual TEST (after the few weeks of preparing it) we can’t ask for advice from the teacher. Which actually is no problem for me, because I never do that anyway. I’m stubborn, hate being told what to do and never believe anyone except myself. I’m real trustworthy (: lol

I might upload a painting I did of my idea later on to dA. It’s just a test to see how it looks and how I’m going to paint it. At the moment I’m planning to use transfer solution to put the reflections in the eyes separately as I don’t know how I’d paint them, especially with only blue tones xD

So pretty dull blog entry, I just like keeping up to date. Any interesting stories?

Happy New Year!

Thursday, December 31st, 2009

Hope everyone has a Happy New Year and this one is better than the last. We’ve just had something to eat and now we’re planning to play games: Who Am I? and Pictionary (I get way too excited) and Charades. I’m trying to convince the folks to play monopoly but they think it’s boring :(

I bought an exercise bike yesterday! It isn’t great. I prefer spin bikes, they’re more smooth to ride, but I couldn’t afford one. This one was pretty cheap and will do to get me doing more cardio. I did 12KM yesterday and 14KM today, so I’ll hopefully get better. I did 28KM in 30 mins at the gym once ^^

Still have loads of studying to do. I started history and biology, only to find out I spent three hours revising the wrong thing for history. I’m really nervous about the exams and don’t know where to start revising! I feel so behind. Also needing to remember to practice my bass, finish my photos for my art project, finish a short film or at least the filming and do another two chapters of Opposites Attract. The last two are optional, but I want to accomplish them before I go back to school. When stressed, creating something makes me feel better.

Well we’re playing Who Am I now and it’s my dad’s turn xD Gotta think of something good!

See you all next year! haha.

Question: What are your New Year resolutions?

Misguided Ghosts

Sunday, December 13th, 2009

I think I have an idea for my latest art project. I’m not going to give it away (mainly, cause I don’t want it stolen ;P) and I’m not exact on how I’m going to make it. But I’m fairly certain on creating it as a painting. Our art teacher told us we could use any area of study, but painting would be best. And I agree. Art schools and examiners tend to want to know that you can paint and do all the basic stuff, so yeah. I’m really excited actually!

Don’t have much more stuff to share to the public. If anything comes up, I’ll let you know.

Well I am currently trying to back up my files, because my laptop’s getting slower each day, making weird noises and I don’t have very high hopes for it O.o. But the stinking external hard drive isn’t working!!! Ahh!! I think I’ve copied two folders and now it’s being all weird. It already took me an hour to get it to open up on my computer at all. Christ -_- Computers hate me.

Light Painting

Friday, December 4th, 2009

I’m interested in learning more about light painting, so this is my first experiment. It’s so cool! :) I’m totally serious about taking it further and doing bigger projects. If you have any suggestions, know any online guides etc, please let me know! Maybe one day I’ll be able to do this:

Haven’t been doing much else, been a bit ill and such (surprise surprise). I’m going into the art department at school tomorrow to try and do as much of the painting techniques as possible to put in my sketchbook. I also need to ask about my photographs so I can finally move on with finishing my photography project! -_- Phew.

The holidays start in about a week and two days! I’ve already done most of my Christmas shopping :P so I’ll probably just be working with photography, art, painting and such. I really miss going to the gym :( I feel like I don’t accomplish anything anymore when I’m not going. I only do aerobics and swimming at school (going running tomorrow morning!) and it feels pathetic xD Endorphin junkie <3

Aaaand All That Jazz!

Wednesday, December 2nd, 2009

I’m thinking of taking up ballet, because I’d really to do contemporary and jazz dancing and I heard knowing ballet basics helps a lot. I’m already very balanced and have a strong core from exercise so I think I’m halfway there! I just can’t find any classes around here… I’m also at a stupid age to start. You either start when you’re 3 or 18 (adult classes) and I don’t know where to go without getting stuck with a bunch of little kids! Haha.

My latest art project is coming along okay, have done almost 40 pages in the sketchbook so far (s’where we show our progress and write about stuff we find out 8D). Unfortunately the photography project hasn’t gone much further than the photographs I posted a while back. One of the art teachers…well, he does all the wood stuff and carpenting stuff, is supposed to help me put the feet back in since they kinda got cut out xD. But he hasn’t been around lately. So…I’m a little behind. Shall try to post photos of my display when I have it done!

I’ve hurt my ankle and I don’t know how…I think it was while stretching for exercise or something and I pulled some muscle O.o Hoping I can do swimming tomorrow! It’s the only cardio thing I do (except run, which I’ve now planned to do on Saturday mornings) so I can’t miss it! I’m totally serious about getting fit and it’ll annoy me if I slack. My diet (!) has been going well so far. I’m cutting down on bad carbs and eating lots of veg. So far I haven’t had any cravings or given up! :)

Nothing exciting has been happening, just school and exercising and art projecting. The good stuff.

My GCSE Photography Project

Friday, November 6th, 2009

My final silhouette photographs for my art project are above! I would love to hear your opinions, but please leave out negative ones. Usually I would appreciate criticism, but not today. I have run out of time to improve on these so I need to use them as they are. If I got neg feedback it would just make me feel bad about ending the project with these and I need to stay focused. But I have to admit I’m pretty pleased with my second project. It went much better than the first project on architecture, which I didn’t enjoy as much but it was a good base in learning about art styles and understanding art in general. Knowing everything I learned then helped me with the photography project too and the third, which I have begun last week.
