Tuesday!

Tuesday, July 13th, 2010

I am SO wasting my summer. Thing is… I can’t get a job, start doing my TEFL course or anything until my sixteenth birthday which is still two weeks away. So I’m trying to fill my time with photography, working out, learning French, writing and watching TV. I’M BORED! And everyone has disappeared :( I’m so aloooooone!

Anyway! I’ve started a photo blog: http://danabeaton.tumblr.com/ That is if I keep to it. I also joined that 365 Project to try and keep myself motivated to take more photos throughout the holidays, but I keep forgetting my camera. I HAVE, however, finished two films so I’m gonna get them developed tomorrow. And they awesomely enough give you the photos on a CD too, so you don’t have to scan every single one. WOOHOO!

Feminism?

Monday, July 5th, 2010

My friend Lily’s new blog entry just reminded me about what I was planning to blog about. When I was at the hairdresser’s, I was reading Company magazine (while actually looking for hairstyles) and read interviews with Marina (and the Diamonds) and Ellie Goulding. Now Ellie, who seems like an interesting and confident person (something that always has to be admired) but she said something that REALLY bugged me.

The interviewer asked both if they were a feminist. Marina said yes and stated the various reasons why one would be a feminist. Ellie is a complete twat. LMAO. She said that she’s not (because if she were, she’d be a hypocrit because of her lyrics), but that she supports equality. Please tell me if I’ve read into this wrong, but even if I haven’t I want to make a point…

FEMINISM IS EQUALITY! Why do people (this includes women) still think that feminism means women supremacy? I KNOW that there are some crazy females out there who hate men and all that, but THEY ARE NOT FEMINISTS. Feminism is about supporting equal rights between men and women! Getting equal pay, abortion rights, not always being sexualised (although I’d be fine with this if men were too, which nowadays they are but not on a daily basis), etcetc. People also say that women do have equality, but we really don’t. Think about it. We are expected to wear make-up, always look after our appearance and hygeine (body hair, anyone? Hell, imo, EVERYONE should shave and that includes men >.< ) whereas men get to look as scruffy as they want and that's considered "manly".

Women need to stop taking the piss out of feminism, because they are just making it worse for themselves. Research things before you judge and assume you know all. And definitely read the book "He's a Stud, She's a Slut" by Jessica Valenti. It's all about double standards and you might realise you were wrong about how equal we all are. (If you know me, feel free to ask to borrow it lol.)

Sorry I’m a bit rambly. I’m tired and distracted by Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt. xD

Why do people always want more?

Thursday, April 8th, 2010

Why can’t people be happy with what they have? Why does the entire human population insist on having more and when they get it, they want even more? Whether it’s because they don’t have enough money, don’t have enough clothes, haven’t caused someone enough pain, don’t have enough to do in their day or just need to have better grades then their friends. Why is what people have… never enough?

And the way people complain… their hair is crap that day, they aren’t skinny enough, their parents don’t love them enough, things aren’t going their way, they aren’t constantly in the centre of attention. Why are we so selfish? And why the fuck do we all hate each other because we have this weird perspective that we are the ones that don’t have enough and that everyone apart from us is getting what they want.

Why can’t we just be happy?

I’m reading A New Earth by Eckhart Tolle. I’ll update once I’ve finished.

Exam Results

Friday, January 29th, 2010

are so annoying sometimes. I won’t go into huge detail but I will bring up one thing! There’s two English papers in the two different exams. I got an averaged A in English Literature which was awesome! Then the English Language I got an A* in one paper! I was raving! I’ve never gotten an A* ever and I really want a good English grade because of art/film/screenwriting aspirations. But the second paper… I’d apparently left out a question, which I either mis-read on what/how many you were supposed to do or wasn’t told to ignore the unstructions and it ended up being a D, even though I got a 28/30 and 23/30 on the questions I did do! One of the English teachers told me my answers were brilliant but because I’d forgotten one… I think this is where I use my brother’s annoying “facepalm” word. At least it only averaged up to a B, but man! I HAD AN A FUCKING *!

It’s only the mocks… but I wanted to use them as predicted grades for part-time jobs and applying to schools. So would it be wrong of me to put A* instead of the B on my CV? Since I know I can get it and would have if I’d done the question!

Waking Life

Saturday, January 23rd, 2010

I feel so relaxed now that most of the exams are over. This is the first day I can just relax and not have to study or be desperate to sleep. I actually expected to sleep in but I was meant to go into the art department at school and then to the hairdressers. None of that happened though because the bus didn’t show up and I wasn’t able to get an appointment for today. Which is really annoying because I haven’t had my hair cut or dyed properly in ages. It feels so messy.

I watched Waking Life this afternoon and it was really good. A lot of people thought Richard Linklater was just trying to create something that seemed philosophical for dumb people. That really annoyed me. I haven’t seen a lot of films similar, but I really enjoyed it. The characters asked a lot of questions I’ve been asking a lot and I was glad to see others thought the same way. Plus I loved that cartoon style, that they also used in A Scanner Darkly.

If you have any movie suggestions that are similar or you just really enjoyed let me know. I like more artsy, independent films but regular ones are good too :)
